XLMS collaborated closely with the Snøhetta’s design team and Cundall to deliver interior construction for Snøhetta’s new 600m2 Hong Kong studio. This space emphasises openness and interdisciplinary exchange, acting as a catalyst for collaboration and civic dialogue, reflecting the firm’s context-driven, ‘trans-disciplinary ethos’.
Located at UG/F, Shop 2-3, True Light Building, 100-106 Third Street, Western District, Hong Kong, the new studio is designed to promote meaningful engagement with both internal teams and the local creative community. Its street-level position includes a welcoming outdoor entrance, inviting the neighbourhood in and reinforcing Snøhetta’s vision of inclusive environments that foster human connections.
Inside, an open layout encourages dialogue and collaboration, featuring a versatile reception area that serves as a venue for community events, including talks and workshops. A communal table, framed by greenery, acts as the studio’s social hub for shared meals and informal discussions.
Snøhetta’s design priorities sustainability and wellbeing, retaining existing interiors and choosing low-impact materials like recycled wood and aluminium. The studio maximises natural light and features a flexible ventilation system for comfort and efficiency.
Inspired by Norway's Dovre Mountain range, the design reflects a connection to nature, using a palette that transitions from earthy tones to vibrant accents, capturing the energy of both Norwegian and Hong Kong cultures.
